A Parent's Prayer
by Mandy Barncord-Doerr

My little angels lie asleep,
Snuggled down in blanket nests.
Their halos hovering over tumbled curls -
Safe from the horrors of this world.

Please, God, I'm on bended knee -
Help me protect my angels, please,
From the evil in this life.

Give me the wisdom to explain
Why this world is so full of pain.
Let them grow up wise and strong.
Help me teach them right from wrong.

The moonlight kisses their eyelids,
Still closed in peaceful dreaming.
Unaware of the noises in the night
That cause my heart to jump in fright.

Please, God, I'm on bended knee -
Help me protect my angels, please,
From the evil in this life.

Give me the wisdom to explain
Why this world is so full of pain.
Let them grow up wise and strong.
Help me teach them right from wrong.

So I ask this simple prayer
With every fiber of my soul -
God, if I do nothing else right,
May I take care of my angels bright.

Please, God, I'm on bended knee -
Help me protect my angels, please,
From the evil in this life.

Give me the wisdom to explain
Why this world is so full of pain.
Let them grow up wise and strong.
Help me teach them right from wrong.
